They met at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Max and Molly met at one of the first Murray Community Association meetings where Molly was the President and Max showed up for free pizza. They got to know each other while they were both Resident Assistants in Murray Hall. After being friends through college, Molly invited Max to the family cabin. They arrived as friends and left as more than friends, and the rest is history.

Max and Molly went hiking in Perrot state park. This park is along the Mississippi River and has a trail that led to the top of a bluff. Max and Molly hiked to the top and had a picnic. After taking pictures for a family passing through, Max and Molly started to head down but Max stopped. Molly asked him if he wanted some water or needed anything else, and this is when Max told Molly that he loved her very much and had an important question for her. That is when he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Of course, she said yes and Molly's friend Sarah was hiding around the corner and filmed the whole thing. It was such a beautiful day on top of the bluff and had a picturesque background with the river and greenery.
