You can take the Metro North train from Rye to NYC. The train is 45 minutes to a hour and drops you in Grand Central Station. There are plenty of restaurants and sites to see within walking distance on Grand Central.

A 47-acre wildlife preserve with over two miles of hiking trails, ponds, streams, granite outcroppings and play areas.
Edith Read Wildlife Sanctuary
Located on the shore of the Long Island Sound, 179-acre sanctuary, with three miles of hiking trails through the forest.
Greenwich
Located about 10 minutes away from Rye. Greenwich offers a mix of shopping, coffee shops, and restaurants along Greenwich Avenue.
