Schipol Airport
Schiphol Airport (AMS) is the closest airport. We recommend taking a taxi or Uber to and from your hotel for the easiest experience. It is also possible to take the train to/from Schipol and Haarlem Centraal (with a transfer at Amsterdam Sloterdijk), which is cheaper but may be less convenient with luggage. From here, you have immediate easy access to public transport options by train and bus. Within a 5-10 minute walk you are in the historic city center. The Ibis is located uitside the city center of Haarlem. The Bloemendaal train station is about a 10 minute walk from the Ibis. From there you can take the train into Haarlem or Amsterdam. Another option is to rent bikes - the city center is about a 10 minute bike ride away. While this hotel is outside of the city center, it is closer to the beautiful municipality of Bloemendaal, were we live, and to the dunes and the beach, all within biking distance. Limited paid parking on site. Bike rental available at the hotel.
Travel Note
Do I need to rent a bike/car?
We would definitely recommend renting a bike, but renting a car is not necessary. Schipol airport is easily accessible by taxi or Uber. Haarlem is very walkable and easy to bike in. The nearby beach, dunes, and nature are within biking distance. Public transport, including trains, busses and trams, makes visiting cities like Amsterdam, Leiden, or Den Haag quick and easy (you can simply tap your bank card to check in and out). Of course, if you're planning a European road trip, feel free to rent a car!
