Things To Do

Third Man Records

441 West Canfield Street, Detroit, MI 48201

The White Stripes were monumental to growing up in Michigan in the early ‘00s. Frontman Jack White founded Third Man Records in 2001, and the Cass Corridor location opened in 2015. Here, you can flip through records to find favorites old and new — including recordings of live performances housed at various Third Man locations. Peek through the viewing window at the back of the store to watch the vinyl LP manufacturing in live time, or book an hour long tour of the facilities to get a closer look. If you’re feeling brave, you can even record and press your own LP in the recording booth! **Tours offered Fridays at 2, 3 PM. $15, advance tickets available via Third Man Records website.

The Rust Belt Market

22801 Woodward Avenue, Ferndale, MI 48220

Rust Belt Market is the artisan market in our beloved Ferndale. There are dozens of in house vendors to wander, with nearly everything under the sun available. The Plant House and Tooth and Nail Oddities are some of my favorites to stop into for a pick-me-up. Coffee, beer and wine, and cocktails are availablej at the Market Bar, and bonbonbon has plenty of sweet treats! -Dannica

Bronx Bar

4476 2nd Avenue, Detroit, MI 48201

We love a good dive bar, and Bronx Bar in Detroit has been one of my favorite haunts since I could legally drink. Bring some cash for the well-curated jukebox or a game of pool. Watch for the low hanging chandeliers if you sit at a booth — you get one freebie when it comes to bonking your head on one while standing up, but after that, it’s probably a “you” problem. (It’s definitely a me problem, I’ve done it many times over the years). -Dannica

The Old Miami

3930 Cass Avenue, Detroit, MI 48201

HopCat

4265 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48201

Detroit Institute of Arts

5200 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48202

Named the best art museum in the United States in USA Today’s Readers’ Choice Polls, the DIA has over 100 galleries — meaning there’s something for everybody here. With over 65,000 pieces total, the DIA features an incredibly impressive collection of American art. Feel some of the Detroit spirit by browsing Diego Rivera’s Detroit Industry frescoes, take in one of the first collections dedicated to African American art at a major museum, or get inspired by contemporary art from the last 75 years.

Motown Museum

2648 West Grand Boulevard, Detroit, MI 48208

The Motown Museum is a wonderful piece of music history here in Detroit. Studio A is where many iconic songs were recorded, including Please, Mr. Postman by the Marvelettes’, the song that brought Motown its first hit single. Please note that the museum can only be toured if booked in advance and guided tours become available for purchase three weeks prior to the tour date. Visit www.motownmuseum.org to book a tour!
