How We Met and the Proposal

2011-Today

Through their involvement in Fraternity and Sorority Life at Monmouth College, Alyssa and Max were able to get to know each other through mutual friends and programs on campus. However, it wasn’t until their senior year until Alyssa and Max started to spend more time with each other due to having classes together like Communication Criticism, and Principles of Marketing (where Alyssa and Max were in the same group for their final project). After they both graduated from Monmouth, Max had sent Alyssa an invitation to his graduation party, but Alyssa had already moved to Knoxville for her new job. This didn't stop the two started talking further and became closer. Texts turned into eventually seeing one another at Monmouth’s Homecoming in 2015. After Homecoming, the two decided to begin dating long distance. Though their road took a few turns, after a year or so, they decided to start talking once again. Texts turned into phone calls, phone calls turned into Facetiming, then meeting in Indianapolis to meet halfway for meetups, and long weekends in Monmouth and Knoxville After two years of working at Monmouth, Max landed a job at Tennessee Wesleyan University where he was then able to move in with Alyssa. After five months of living with one another, and multiple conversations about our values and the future, Max knew that Alyssa was the one. To quote, “Life is too short to not spend it with someone you love, and I couldn’t imagine not having Alyssa by my side.” Finally, on a chilly November Friday night, Alyssa and Max went downtown to some of their favorite spots for a drink and dinner. On their way home, Max walked with Alyssa to the downtown square, got on one knee, and asked Alyssa to marry him.
