Special Exhibition through June 2025: Painted with Silk -- The Art of Early American Embroidery From the 1600s to 1830, American girls’ education emphasized reading, writing, and embroidery, with finely crafted pieces often symbolizing achievement and discipline. Painted with Silk will showcase around 80 well-preserved examples of this delicate art, illustrating the cultural values they taught. Contemporary pieces by Elaine Reichek, critiquing the gender and class assumptions in these works, will be displayed alongside, encouraging visitors to reflect on their own beliefs and values.
