Detroit Institute of Arts
Considered to house one of the best art collections in the United States, the museum showcases everything from mummies to modern art and African masks to Monets in its outstanding collection of over 65,000 works. Special Exhibition through June 2025: Painted with Silk -- The Art of Early American Embroidery From the 1600s to 1830, American girls’ education emphasized reading, writing, and embroidery, with finely crafted pieces often symbolizing achievement and discipline. Painted with Silk will showcase around 80 well-preserved examples of this delicate art, illustrating the cultural values they taught. Contemporary pieces by Elaine Reichek, critiquing the gender and class assumptions in these works, will be displayed alongside, encouraging visitors to reflect on their own beliefs and values.
Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation
The Henry Ford in Dearborn, Michigan, is a world-renowned cultural destination that connects visitors with America's history through stories of ingenuity, resourcefulness, and innovation. Each year, over 1.7 million guests explore its four unique attractions: the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation, Greenfield Village, the Ford Rouge Factory Tour, and the Benson Ford Research Center.
Detroit Zoo
The Detroit Zoo, located across Huntington Woods and Royal Oak, Michigan, covers 125 acres of naturalistic habitats and is home to more than 2,500 animals representing 280 species, including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. As the first U.S. zoo to introduce bar-less habitats, it is internationally recognized for leadership in animal welfare, conservation, and sustainability, led by the Detroit Zoological Society.
Balloons Over Bavarian Inn
If you're up for a drive just over an hour, Frankenmuth is well worth the trip. This charming town offers shopping, indoor waterparks, famous chicken dinners, historic tours, year-round Christmas fun, and plenty of museums. Plus, during our wedding weekend, the special Balloons Over Bavarian Inn event will be taking place! You can catch the breathtaking sight of over 20 hot air balloons lifting off in the morning and evening, and enjoy nightly balloon glows during the Frankenmuth Dog Bowl on the grassy field near River Place Shops.
