Pay parking (sorry!) is available at the Bloedel conservatory in Queen Elizabeth Park. Parking is by credit card, or exact change at the parking machines. Drive up right to the parking lot closest to the conservatory. all the parking is the same price in the park anyway.... so do not park at the bottom of the hill!
Never been here before and need more information? copy this link to your browser: https://vancouver.ca/parks-recreation-culture/bloedel-conservatory.aspx or click on the map button on the 'wedding day info' tab. Basically it is a giant glass dome, with a tropical garden inside, including tropical plants and trees, waterfalls, and over 120 free flying birds.
The conservatory will be opening to the general public at 10 am. A staff member will be on hand to let guests in and keep gate crashers out before 10 am.
The conservatory is climate controlled. It is kept at a pleasant temperature all year. It is NOT a tropical rain forest... we are comfortable inside in a light jacket. It pretty much feels like a perfect spring day.... except it will be February outside.
We will be having a breakfast buffet immediately after the wedding ceremony. Guests can enjoy a light breakfast with us while exploring the conservatory for an hour before the conservatory opens to the public. Enjoy fresh fruit, muffins, pastries, and other baking, and a tropical juice punch, coffee, and tea.
You are definitely allowed to take pictures inside the conservatory, BUT please do not take pictures during our wedding ceremony. We will have a professional photographer recording our wedding, and will make all the photos available through a web link afterwards. We would simply rather have you watch our ceremony, instead of watching your camera phone.
Please be comfortable, but not too comfortable. We are requesting that guests dress to a 'going out to brunch' level. No jeans please, but you don't necessarily need to bring a tie (unless that's your thing, then wear a tie). Some suggestions: Slacks and a collared shirt - tropical print optional. That light dress that is hanging in your closet, waiting for spring? Perfect! it is always a spring day in the conservatory. Shoes? Some of the paths throughout the conservatory are cobble stone, but most are cement. Stiletto heals are recommended only for professional runway models. Wear what you wore to your uncles 60th birthday to that nice restaurant downtown. You know the one - where people go out for awkward first dates. No, not the restaurant where they leant you a jacket before they would let you in. The other one.
Even though the conservatory looks like an outdoor garden, it is an indoor climate controlled ecosystem.... NO SMOKING inside the conservatory. Queen Elizabeth Park , like all parks in Vancouver is now completely 'no smoking'.
Avocados are banned from the conservatory. They are toxic to some of the birds (who knew?). This is why birds avoid avocado farms (ok. I made that part up). Please enjoy your avocado toast for breakfast before you arrive. We wont judge you.
Our wedding ceremony will be short and sweet. After the conservatory opens, our guests are welcome to stay in the conservatory and further explore. Catering will be cleared away at 10 am. Matty and Bryan will be leaving by 10:30 am.
