Alex moved to San Francisco in the spring of 2020 after accepting a job in the city. It was peak pandemic, and he found himself working remotely from a house with five roommates. Meanwhile, Mattie came across Alex’s Hinge profile and couldn’t resist responding to his prompt about going on a date to the zoo. While the zoo wasn’t an option during lockdown, they decided to meet for a stroll along Fort Mason and Aquatic Park instead. Little did they know, this would one day be the same spot where they’d swim Escape from Alcatraz together. For their second date, Alex pulled out all the stops, inviting Mattie over for rosé on his new rooftop deck, complete with sweeping views of the city and the Bay. Not to be outdone, Mattie upped the ante for date three, taking Alex on a 17-mile hike from Mount Tamalpais to Stinson Beach and back. Despite being on his very first hike ever, Alex carried Mattie’s backpack the entire way, and the 10+ hours on the trail flew by effortlessly. By the end of that day, Mattie was smitten—not just by Alex’s kindness and adventurous spirit, but by the feeling that they were already a perfect team. This unforgettable hike, including the Sunset Ridge trail pictured above, is where their love story truly began. It’s where Alex would playfully tease Mattie for always wanting to watch the sunset on the foggiest days, where they would later bring their puppy Luca, and, ultimately, where Mattie said yes to Alex’s proposal.
