Introduced by mutual friends, Matti and McKenzie spent the first six months of their relationship trying every taco place in Portland. Once they had built a solid foundation, Matti took McKenzie to his family's cabin in Newport, Oregon that his grandfather had built nearly 70 years ago. It was love at first sight, and the two spent every weekend that summer at the cabin cooking, drinking, laughing, and falling in love. It was there that Matti proposed two years later.

Matti and McKenzie decided to hold their wedding in the neighborhood where they live in their first home together, St. Johns. On September 21st, 2018, the couple will tie the knot among their family and friends at Cathedral Park, under the St. Johns Bridge.
