Our Story

.

The night Morgan and Matt met, they were only expecting to find sushi, not their soul mates. Morgan was preparing to travel and study in Washington, D.C. for the next three months, and Matt was ramping up his graduate degree program in Los Angeles. It seemed like it wouldn’t work out. But they decided to meet at Ami Sushi in Westwood and give it a try anyway. It would be the best decision either of them would ever make. The first date led quickly to a second and third. It didn’t take Matt long to see that Morgan was special. She was smart and ambitious, with an infectious laugh and a deep commitment to those she loved.

And Morgan was laughing a lot, because Matt was one of the funniest people she had ever met. His quick wit had Morgan bent double during each date. But Morgan quickly realized Matt brought a lot more to the table than just a good joke or two. He was also charismatic, thoughtful, and so brilliant that Morgan often had to pretend to understand the things he would say about engineering. She didn’t, however, have to pretend to have fun. From a few rounds of mini golf to a couple frames of bowling, Matt and Morgan discovered a mutual love of games – and competition. Neither would dare “let” the other win at anything!

When they weren’t vying for game night supremacy, they were traveling and trying new restaurants. Morgan, always the planner, learned to be more spontaneous. And Matt, always easy going, learned the benefits of a well-thought-out itinerary. They perfectly complemented each other and were truly a perfect match – similar enough to have fun and different enough to keep things interesting. Around the time Morgan started law school, the couple’s bond grew even stronger when they brought a furry friend into the mix: their beloved corgi, Colbie. It didn’t take long to see Colbie was just like her parents: a highly competitive foodie who loved long walks, good restaurants, fun games, and warm cuddles. If going on a date with each other is the best decision Morgan and Matt have ever made, then getting Colbie is a close second.

With their growing family and busy careers, Matt and Morgan took another leap: In 2023, after living together for two years and traveling the world, they bought their first house. And, through blood, sweat, and tears, they made it into a home. But they figured one thing was still missing. With a new backyard and more space to run free, Matt and Morgan decided to give Colbie a younger sister. A furry one, obviously! And in March of 2024, Bailey joined the family. One house, two dogs, and over six years after that life-changing first date, Matt asked Morgan if she wanted to continue their adventures forever. Morgan, of course, said yes.
