Matt and Serena were introduced by their mutual friend: Hinge, who clearly had their best interests in mind. Serena had a feeling Matt was special even before their first date. That spring, both of them had traveled to Japan – missing each other by just one week. When Matt saw Serena’s “ two truth’s and a lie” he thought to himself, there was no way she flew home with a samurai sword, only to later learn it was true. He was so intrigued, he knew he had to meet her in person. For their first date, Matt chose a sushi restaurant in Brentwood as a nod to how they first connected over Japan. What he didn’t know, was that their date fell on Serena’s very first shift at her new hospital. As time came closer to their date, Serena knew she wasn’t going to make it in time for their date as her last patient needed a central line. Serena reluctantly asked to push the reservation back… then again…and then one last time. By the time everything had settled, the restaurant had closed for the night. Fortunately, Matt wasn’t about to let that stop him. He quickly found a brand-new sushi spot and over a bottle of sake and sashimi, sparks flew. The rest, as they say, is history.
