We were set up on a blind date by a close friend of ours, as she had worked with Sydney for years and Matt living with her son. Without any information on each other prior to the date, we met for dinner and drinks on a Monday night. After forgetting to eat (due to conversation), playing games at Dave & Busters until they closed, and rapping music in the car - we knew that we were each others forever. Fast forward to a puppy, a home together in Dana Point, and constant laughter we find ourselves here, more in love every day.
It was a typical Friday, we were both looking forward to ending the week strong and starting our weekend. We had plans to have dinner at our friends' house in Costa Mesa that night. Early in the week, Matt asked Syd if she wanted to have a glass of wine at one of the beach parks near the house (Salt Creek Beach), before heading up to Costa Mesa for dinner. Being that a wine picnic at Salt Creek was nothing out of the ordinary, Syd didn't think anything of it. We walked down the hill at Salt Creek Park and unbeknownst to Sydney, there was a proposal set up - complete with roses, champagne and pictures. As the sun was setting Matt got on one knee, at the same park where he first met Sydney’s family a few years prior for the traditional “Dougherty Holiday Beach Run”. After the sun had set, and photos had been taken, we drove up to our friends’ house in Costa Mesa where we were surprised with a beautifully decorated backyard celebration! Matt had the celebration catered by Cucina Enoteca (where we had our blind date) and we huddled around the fire showered with love. It was the perfect day, and we couldn't have dreamed of a better way to start the next chapter of our love story.
