A Beautiful Beginning

October 2023

It was an ordinary day at work when Silvia was introduced to Matt by his boss. He had already been working there for about a month, but somehow, their paths hadn’t crossed until that moment. Their first real conversation was about something as academic as calculus. Silvia had been wrestling with some homework, and Matt quickly offered to help. It was simple, thoughtful, and genuine.Their interaction was brief but warm, and before they knew it, they had exchanged numbers—without any idea of where it might lead. That small gesture opened a door, and before long, he asked her out to lunch. Silvia hesitated and initially said no, but as the day passed, something tugged at her heart. Unsure of what this was or could be, she changed her mind. The next day, Matt came by Silvia’s office to pick her up. She followed him outside, slightly nervous but oddly calm. There was a quiet trust blooming in her chest, even if she couldn’t explain why. As they approached his car, Matt opened the passenger door for her. And there it was—resting on the seat in plain view—his Bible. In that instant, a sense of peace washed over Silvia. Her heart, once fluttering with nerves, stilled. It was a quiet, beautiful confirmation that God was present, guiding this moment. She felt it deeply—this wasn’t just a lunch date. This was the beginning of something sacred. They sat together over lunch, and what began as small talk turned into a meaningful conversation about faith, beliefs, and church. To their surprise, they found they had much more in common than they ever expected. There was a shared foundation, something deeper connecting them beyond surface-level attraction. That spontaneous lunch turned into something more, and soon came their first official date. Matt showed up at Silvia’s door with a bouquet of flowers in hand—a classic gesture that still managed to catch her by surprise. For the date, he took her axe throwing, a bold and unexpected choice that made them both laugh and loosen up. Afterward, they shared a quiet dinner at a Thai restaurant, where the food was delicious and the conversation even better. It was one of those rare nights where words flowed effortlessly, and time slipped quietly out of the way. Their connection deepened with each passing day. Moments turned into memories, and one day, Matt asked Silvia to be his girlfriend. And with a soft smile and a full heart, she said yes.
