One Seattle summer day, Savanah was at a park with some friends enjoying the sunshine. A friend of a friend (looking at you Sachin and Rishi) brought their roommate to tag along. Cue Matt: quiet and tall and catching Savanah's eye immediately. She looked at her roommate and said "Who is that guy?", the conquest began. Throughout the summer, the two crossed paths more and more. They learned that they lived .5 mile away from each other on the same street in Capitol Hill for a whole year before meeting and that they moved to Seattle (he from Chicago and her from Charlotte) within a week of each other in 2014. By late summer, the spark had been ignited. On a fateful Wednesday night, after a very fancy dinner (infamously known as "Fancy Wednesday"), Savanah turned to Matt and asked "So, am I your girlfriend?". 4.5 years, 30+ trips to China, 3 Underdog Volleyball Championships, and 1 (adorable, perfect) dog later, Matt decided it was his turn to pop the question.
To say that either of us remember all the details of that day would definitely be a stretch. Between the nerves, anticipation, tears (of joy), and restless dog, it's a miracle that we got to the "will you marry me" and "yes" parts, but we'll do our best to recount. Weekend walks around Green Lake have become somewhat of a tradition between the three of us. Waking up early, getting coffee and wrestling Gus as he tries to befriend every dog (and human) that passes by is something that we look forward to any chance the the sun is out. With the help of a few friends, Matt scouted out the perfect location for the big moment during a normal Sunday walk. In his head, it would be smooth sailing: they'd go on their walk, Matt would casually suggest they go take a picture of Gus (for the 'gram), Sav would pose, Matt would say something really smooth and romantic and then pop the question.... It totally went that way *cough cough* and we'll just leave it at that. All that's important is that she said yes, and we are so excited to begin our journey together and celebrate with our friends and family.
