Matt and Spanky met each other in a young adult group at church. One day Matt and Spanky were sitting next to each other at group. While everyone was sharing their “highs and lows” of their week, Matt shared his high that he would be attending the Masters golf tournament with his boss… only to then say his low was that his boss changed plans and they weren’t going to be going. Then it was Spanky’s turn to share… her high was that she WAS going to be attending the Masters with her grandpa that upcoming weekend. Once official group time ended, Matt had to talk to Spanky more about her Masters ticket experience. They both remember how easy and comfortable it was to talk with one another, and they appreciated that the other person had lived in places outside of NC.

After continually getting to know each other in church group, Spanky just couldn’t help herself and asked Matt if he would go to the driving range with her… how could he say no to that?! Matt coached Spanky through a bucket of balls and they laughed and felt at ease the whole time. They sat in rocking chairs together and played putting games for hours as they got to know each other. A week later, Matt asked Spanky to play nine with him and follow it up with margaritas. Some of their favorite memories together over the last 2.5 years are moments shared on the golf course, watching golf tournaments, or going to Pinehurst. And yes, they have been to the Masters together… twice! Thanks, Papa Sam!

Of course, it only made sense that the two would be engaged involving the game of golf that started their relationship. Matt proposed to Spanky in the fairway of hole number ten at 12 Oaks golf course after she hit a killer iron shot. They celebrated the evening at the club house surrounded by family and friends.
