Renata came from Brazil, carrying new dreams into her very first semester at Portland Bible College. Matthew came from Florida, walking through his last semester, unaware that God was about to write the most important chapter of his life. Because of a freshman rule, she wasn’t allowed to date during her first semester. And so, when mid-February arrived and he first noticed her, there was little he could do—except be patient. Still, his heart leaned in her direction. He found simple ways to be present, to start conversations, to know her as a friend. His intentions were quiet but clear. She noticed. And she welcomed them. Time moved gently toward the end of the semester, and the final night arrived with the school banquet. As the evening came to a close, courage met opportunity. He asked her out on a date. She said yes. On May 19th, 2025, they went on their very first date—and it was so special that neither of them could quite believe how natural, joyful, and right it felt. Wanting to honor God above their feelings, he asked if she would pray and fast with him, seeking clarity and peace. They did. And instead of questions, peace only grew—stronger, deeper, steadier with each passing day. On June 13th, Matthew asked Renata to be his girlfriend. She laughed, nervous and amazed that this was really happening. After being single for so long, it felt like a leap of faith. Praise God, she took it. With time, patience, and consistent kindness, her heart became sure. He wasn’t just someone special—he was the one. On July 1st, Matthew said “I love you” for the first time. Renata said it too, just a few hours later, once her heart caught up with the moment. Then came December 23rd. On a day trip to Leavenworth—a place Renata had always dreamed of visiting—Matthew got down on one knee and asked her to spend her life with him. She said yes. Now, hand in hand, they look forward with hope and gratitude, dreaming of a future built on faith, love, and God’s grace—thankful that what began with patience and obedience became a beautiful forever.
