Meant To Be

August 2011

I've been with Matt for 5 years now, but I've known him for much longer. He actually used to be the shy one and almost didn't talk to me. I recently transferred to Harris Teeter back in college. Everyone befriended me, all except for Matt. I decided to then go up and introduce myself, but shockingly, he didn't say much back. I don't know what it was, but I was then determined for us to be friends. Gradually I brought him out of his shell and he explained how he was just nervous around me. I'm glad I decided to force him to befriend me, because 2 years later, we started dating, and that's how our story began.

The Proposal

August 19th, 2018

This proposal wasn't my original idea, originally, the plan involved a few friends, O and I taking a weekend trip to the Biltmore. We would go to the overlook, viewing the house from across the lawn and take pictures. There, her and I would have a picture taken, I would turn around, get on one knee, and ask her to be mine forever. Well.... this all changed when our offer on the house got accepted. We would be moving into our first home in late August and I had really hoped for us to be engaged before we had a home together. So after brainstorming and help from a few of her friends the plan was complete and day was set. The morning of August 19th, I was both nervous and excited because the day finally came for me to ask my best friend to marry me. Everything that day was going absolutely perfect. She left with one of her friends to get her nails done, so I was able to go to the escape room early and place the ring. Once I arrived, the game masters gave me the perfect place to place the ring. It would be hidden inside King Tuts Sarcophagus, the very last part of the game. As the game went on, I got more nervous and anxious, until it was time. The group finally found King Tut’s crook which needed to be paired with his flail to end the game. We all ran back into the first room to return the items inside the unopened Sarcophagus. As the rest of the group backed up and grabbed their phones, O opened the casket and looked inside. She had no clue the ring inside was for her, but merely a prop for the game, so she asked "guys are you going to help me." I walked over and grabbed the ring. At that moment she knew, she was at a lost for words. As we both were trying to compose ourselves, I managed to get out the most important words "I Love you, will you marry me?" She proceeded to say yes and I placed the ring on her hand. This was the happiest moment in my life!
