How We Met

First Comes Spanish, Then Comes Marriage

One day in the Fall of 2022 I gave my sister a call via FaceTime to see how she was doing in school. She must not have been that busy because she answered lol. She was in a study lab group in the Nursing building at her college. We talked for a few minutes and before she hung up someone on my sisters side of the camera caught my eye. I would soon find out through a series of intellectual and interrogative questions to my sister that she in fact, was SINGLE;) And knew Spanish! And had the most beautiful and unique name. Her name was Nohelia!!! This was my way in. Since I started my venture of learning the Spanish language I asked my sister if Nohelia was available to give me Spanish lessons. She agreed to it and I couldn't have been more excited! After many many Spanish lessons via WhatsApp and fun late night conversations on the phone for months I knew it was finally time to ask the juicy question I have been wanting to ask since the day I laid eyes on her. When would you like to meet up in person? Since I initiated the idea, I thought I would meet her in her hometown of Katy Tx ( Around Houston for the geographically challenged ) We had dinner at Gloria's for our first date and it was honestly the most perfect occasion to finally get to meet her and talk to her in person. I knew then in that moment as I know now that this was the woman that was meant for me. We mutually agreed not long after our first date that we wanted to date each other, for the purpose of one day to maybe get married. Fast forward to January 4th, 2024 and climb your way up the steep incline of Enchanted Rock in Fredericksburg Tx. The place and time I chose to propose to my one true love. I got her wedding ring many months in advance of this moment because I knew she was the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. As we got to the top we were both winded and tired from the intense climb. I snuck the ring out of my pack and hid it behind my back as I tried to get Nohelia to look the other direction. She then asked me " Where should we go next?" and I replied "I don't know,... But I do know know where I need to go next". Then I began to get down on one knee and ask the most gorgeous and kind woman I have ever met to marry me. And it took her a moment lol, but she said YES! I couldn't have been more excited in my life that day to know that I will get to have someone to walk through life with that is my Best Friend, and Partner in Crime. I love you with all my heart Nohelia!

How We Met

From tutor, to best friend, to soulmate

When I first met Matthew, he was so eager to learn Spanish and have long conversations with me. At first, I believed him and we would have hour long video calls about Spanish words, phrases, and our conversations began to be daily. Our friendship was growing and I loved his personality, his jokes, and how genuine he was. (Matthew is still hilarious and the most down to earth person I know!) But I soon came to find out he had more intentions than to simply learn Spanish. At the time, I had just started nursing school and that was all I was focused on, so I thought it would be too complicated to begin a relationship. Even though I thought I only wanted a friendship with Matthew, I soon realized how much I anticipated his calls and felt excited to hear him tell me all bout his day. I had grown deep feelings of friendship that began to grow romantically for him. Even thought I thought nursing school would give me no time for a relationship, I always found a way to make time for Matthew because he is so important to me. I realized that I saw a future with Matthew and wanted to open my heart to him. My favorite memories while we were dating and living long distance from each other was our weekends. At the time, I was living in Belton at college and Matthew was living in Dallas. We were almost 3 hours away from each other and could only see each other on the weekends. On weeks that we were both very busy and only had a few hours to spend together, Matthew would drive 3 hours to have dinner with me and then drive back. It was the biggest gesture and act of love I had experienced! Less than a year later we climbed to the top of Enchanted Rock in Fredricksberg where Matthew proposed to me. I remember the trail being so steep and slippery that I was afraid of falling, but Matthew always has the most encouraging and comforting words to calm me down. Once we reached that top I was so glad I kept going because we were rewarded with a beautiful view. When Matthew proposed it truly took me by surprise. At first I was in shock that this moment had finally arrived, but when I looked into his eyes I knew Matthew would be my husband and the man I am supposed to spend my life with. That day he proposed will forever be stored in my mind as a precious memory. :) He is the love of my life and I am so grateful that he came into my life and shows how much he loves me every day. I love you Matthew!
