I met Natalie at softball practice—already a power move on her part, because I later found out she’d done some research on me on Facebook before ever stepping on the field. After practice we went to SuperMex, where the chemistry was obvious, the conversation was easy, and the red flags were minimal… except one. She didn’t even offer me her leftovers! And somehow, despite that early warning sign, I knew I was in trouble in the best possible way. There are many versions of this story in which I over embellish and call her a stalker and then make myself out to be innocent and unaware. We may recollect the story differently but truth be told, I respect the fact that she knew exactly what she wanted, me!
After joining a new softball team, I did what anyone would do—I looked up everyone in the Facebook group chat to see if I had played with anyone before. When I came across Matt’s profile, I realized we shared the same birthday! At the first practice, I walked straight up to him, completely excited, and blurted out, “Hi, we have the same birthday!” (In hindsight, I probably should have introduced myself first.) After practice, we all went to SuperMex, and Matt kept me laughing the entire time. From that moment on, it was clear this was the beginning of something special.
