We love the barbeque at Jack Stack in the freight building 1 mile from the venue. Don’t forget to pair it with one of their Old Fashioneds or a Boulevard beer.
Matt endorses this as one of the best historical museums in America! No museum comprehensively covers WW1 like this museum, and it is well worth a few hours visit. Before or after visiting the museum, head up the outdoor stairs to a large overlook of the city and surrounding area. This is one of the best vistas of Kansas City! Additionally, the park surrounding the memorial is a great place for a walk and fresh air.
Kansas City is home to lots of breweries and distilleries, but is perhaps best known throughout the Midwest for Boulevard beer. Take a tour of their brewery, or enjoy their beer hall. You can enjoy their Rec Deck – where you can play shuffle board or table shuffle.
A great distillery along the river. Enjoy local whiskey and gin cocktails in a Kansas City original distillery.
Jones Bar-B-Q is a no-frills roadside joint with just a few picnic tables in the sun, it’s only open for lunch, and many days the Jones sisters sell out before closing.
Another casual BBQ spot we’d recommend for lunch, Gates is a Kansas City institution! There are six locations around Kansas City, but we recommend the one on Main St.
Although Slap’s didn’t open until 2014, it’s already become a KC landmark thanks to its solid combo plates and classic feel. The restaurant is clean but casual: Expect Styrofoam cups, self-serve sauces (skip the sweet, score the spicy), and outdoor- only seating (for cold days, there’s a covered patio with heaters). It’s also a fine place to experiment with less-popular meats. Slap’s Polish sausage and juicy, thin-sliced turkey are some of the best in the city. There’s usually a line at lunchtime, but it moves fast — and the bar will serve you a beer while you wait.
Around the corner from Hotel Kansas City as a well-known “party zone”, known as Power and Light. There are tons of bars and restaurants to enjoy!
Enjoy this neighborhood along the river with lots of restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and shops.
Near Union Station is a neighborhood with live music, bars, breweries, distilleries, art and shopping. Matt and Molly’s favorite!
Located in the hotel and host of the after party, you can catch live music almost any night of the week!
The Kansas City Royals will be in town the week of our wedding! They'll face the Texas Rangers. Enjoy a great place to watch baseball! Make sure you tailgate, which is the bucket list item for Royals and Chiefs games!
It’s worth taking a look at this historic train station. Kansas City, like Chicago, is one of the countries main passenger and freight transportation hubs. This station is voted one of the countries best, and was host to the 2023 NFL Draft.
Another distillery with the feel of a speakeasy! Enjoy excellent cocktails in this fun venue.
One of those historic restaurants that has seen the evolution of the city (and the country). They say jazz was born in New Orleans, but it grew up in Kansas City. This venue is a big reason why! Read up on the rich history of this spot and KC over a great steak!
