How it all began

Lindsey and Matthew met in July of 2018 while Matthew was travelling with his best-friend (now best-man!) Adam Barrett up to Claytor Lake in Virginia. Before heading to the lake Adam and Matthew decided to stop at Adam's grandparent's house for a few days to relax and to hike Grandfather mountain. Adam had also invited his cousins Lindsey and Laiken on the hike which, in hindsight, was a very serendipitous decision! With the weather looking promising, the four drove to the head of the Grandfather Profile trail which Adam insisted would be an easy hike and "probably only three hours long round-trip, I swear". Four hours later, the group reached the summit of Grandfather and with no snacks and few drinks heard a rumble of thunder in the distance. Spurred on by the threat of bad weather, the four rushed down the mountain only to be caught in a torrential downpour. With water up to their calves, they continued their descent all the while holding Adam's hammock rain-tarp over their heads like a drenched, pitiful caterpillar. After what seemed like an eternity of sloshing through puddles and bumping into each other blindly, the four mountaineers finally managed to exit the trail and were rescued by Lauren (Lindsey's sister and maid of honor). After forming a deep bond through adventures and mishaps, Lindsey and Matthew would stay in very close touch and eventually go on their first date a few months later. They would proceed to fall in love, and eventually get engaged just a short distance from where they had first begun their journey almost two years prior. The two of them have yet to return to the Grandfather Profile trail although they both swear they would love to at some point!
