Matthew signed up for a church rec basketball league. Johanna was running the score board. Now, you're probably thinking that Matthew's basketball skills wowed Johanna and it was love at first swoosh. Au contraire! In fact, it was Matthew's ability to face defeat like a gentleman when Johanna challenged him to a round of spikeball after his basketball game that really caught her eye. "Ask for his number and add him to my spikeball group chat," Johanna thought. "It feels good to win against a triathlete." With victory as his "only motive," Matthew kept showing up to play spikeball throughout the spring. Eventually he earned some victories, and Johanna's attention. Their friendship grew beyond the roundnet, with more conversations shared at church events, the slopes of Beaver Creek, and after some rounds of volleyball. Matthew asked Johanna out for a coffee and a walk, which turned into many more dates, hikes, ski days, adventures, and memories. They became best friends, and sticking together through life's ups and downs became the only imaginable plan. On February 17th, Matthew got down on one knee and asked Johanna to be his wife. Through a mix of tears and giggles, Johanna said yes. They are thrilled to start their married life together this November, and they hope you can join them on the big day!
