Point Dume
This is one of Hilary's favorite places on earth. A short, moderate hike leads to a cliff with an amazing view of a hidden beach (Pirate's Cove) and the Pacific Ocean. Spot dolphins, seals, and even mother whales with their babies in the waters below. Don't forget to stop by The Sunset Restaurant for a delicious breakfast with ocean views.
Malibu Surfrider Beach
One of the best surf spots in Malibu. For an authentic experience, bring cash and rent a board from one of the veteran surfers who hang out there. Just. be careful paddling out--surfers tend to get territorial over the best waves! Wet suits are needed. Also home to the Surfrider Pier which houses The Malibu Farm, a staple restaurant in Malibu.
3rd Street Promenade
Fine dining, shopping, and more--all in a walkable, outdoor promenade.
The Barn at Cielo Farms
One of many wineries/wine tasting experiences in Malibu Canyon. Reservation required. We recommend taking an Uber to and from, since driving through the canyon can be tricky after a glass of vino! For a comprehensive list of vineyards, visit www.chefdenise.com/all/wineries-malibu-wine.
Geoffrey's
A fine-dining option in Malibu with incredible beach views. Reservations required. Other fine dining experiences in the area include Nobu, the steakhouse Mastro's Ocean Club Malibu, and the restaurant at the Malibu Beach Inn (The Carbon Beach Club Restaurant).
Malibu Country Mart
A great place to grab breakfast and browse shops post-surf or hike. Check out Malibu Kitchen & Gourmet for a delicious sandwich or baked good or head to SunLife Organics for a bougie green drink (a Hilary staple).
Malibu Seafood Fresh Fish Market & Patio Cafe
A trusted and delicious seafood spot that Hilary grew up going to (and introduced Matt to on their first trip to California!). Grab fresh fish or fish and chips and sit at a picnic table overlooking the beach and the PCH.
Paradise Cove Beach Café
Admittedly a bit of a "tourist trap," but it's the only place in Malibu that's literally on the sand. You can dine with great views in the restaurant, or rent a beach lounge if you'd like. Reservations recommended.
Spruzzo Restaurant & Bar
This unassuming restaurant is a hidden gem, and one of Hilary's family's favorites. Sit out by fire pits on the expansive patio, with sweeping views of the ocean and sunset. The food and drinks are top-notch at an affordable price.
The Stonehaus
One of Hilary's hometown favorites (and Matt's, too!) Located in the same place as the rehearsal dinner and the Westlake Village Inn, this enchanting working vineyard has a nice selection of wines, charcuterie and delicious coffee and baked goods in the mornings. Meander through the grapevines and happen upon seating around fire pits, a stone pizza oven, a bocce ball court, and more. Right next door is the restaurant Mediteranneo, and next to that, the indoor-outdoor lounge, Bogie's. A golf course and a new spa are also nearby. Seating is first-come, first-serve, and fills up fast, so arrive early!
Pearl District Restaurant
For a Zagat-rated dining experience in Hilary's hometown, head to the Pearl District. Other nearby fine-dining options include Tuscany and (for lake views) Bocaccio's, the Landing, and Zin on the Westlake Marina.
