It all began in the Oliver Ames high school weight room of all places, in the late fall 2012. Corrine was a senior, leading gymnastics preseason captains’ practices, and Matt—a wide-eyed freshman on the football team—was just getting started. A few months later, in the winter of 2013, their paths crossed again through mutual friends. What began as a causal connection quickly grew into a deep and easy friendship. They discovered they had strangely similar upbringings, shared values, and a strong Christian faith that would become a cornerstone of their bond. With no date to the Senior Prom, as it naturally goes when you’re the principles daughter – Corrine turned to Matt to be her date. They danced the night away, even ask her Matron of Honor who also remembers it as the best prom ever. As Corrine left for college, their friendship never wavered. They leaned on each other through the highs and lows of early adulthood, writing letters during Matt’s grueling time at Marine Corps Officer Candidate School and staying close even from afar. Then, six years after that unforgettable prom night, Matt invited Corrine to his final Military Ball of college. That night marked a shift, what had always been a strong foundation of friendship began to bloom into something more. In true full-circle fashion, their early days of writing letters continued as Corrine left for Army Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training. They returned to pen and paper, finding comfort in one another’s words during those months apart. When the summer of 2020 arrived, so did a new season in their relationship: one filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories. The years that followed tested and strengthened their commitment. Three years of long distance. An accelerated nursing program. A National Guard activation. A six-month deployment. The challenges of living together for the first time. The joys of many weddings, family vacations, beautiful new friendships formed, the miracles of nieces and nephews entering this world, and the heartache of friends and family sadly departing our earth. Through it all, they never stopped choosing each other. Now, they look back with full hearts on a journey that has included exploring Southern California together, an engagement, Matt completing his first tour as a Marine Officer, buying their first home, Corrine commissioning in the Navy Nurse Corps and graduating from Naval Officer Development School, and now another move across the country. With deep roots, shared values, and an unshakable friendship, Matt and Corrine unknowingly started building their life together 12 years ago. Now, as they start this next chapter, they’re beyond grateful for the journey that brought them here -and excited to continue building a life rooted in love, laughter, and unbreakable friendship.
