They say absence makes the heart grow fonder. Well, for Colleen and Matt, it made them crazy. Crazy about each other. They met in Sea Isle while celebrating a mutual friend's engagement. It wasn't long before there was a spark. But what they didn’t know was how they could make it work, or what that would even look like. For 8 long months they travelled back and forth between Long Island and South Jersey. Hours were spent on the Turnpike, Belt parkway, and even public transportation just to steal a weekend together. There were countless Zoom dates, nightly phone calls, and most of every day spent planning a future together. Matt learned how good an All American hamburger tastes, and Colleen learned that it’s a hoagie, not…a hero?? What’s a hero? Ultimately they agreed to move to King of Prussia and haven't looked back since. They love traveling, going to concerts, and of course watching early morning soccer together. Looking back, it was all so obvious. But life has a way of making the obvious feel earned. And the story of Matt and Colleen starts, and will continue, with their ever long commitment to making it work together, one step at a time.
Colleen was sick. Very sick. Two nights before the big day she took a COVID test. Matt held his breath. Negative. The proposal was a three month project. Both families and sets of friends were involved. The location was carefully selected to be the historical monument at Valley Forge where Colleen and Matt frequented for daily walks. On the big day she thought the plan was dinner at an Italian restaurant with Matt’s family. On the drive over Matt got a call from his mother. They needed to hold off for a couple minutes. He pulled into the national park and jumped out of the car in front of the monument. They would take a walk. After the proposal Colleen once again was misled. It was time to celebrate with her parents for a drink at Bald Birds Brewery. Little did she know her entire family and group of friends from New York had made the trip, along with all of Matt’s. Everyone drank, ate, and relished in the surprise on Colleen’s face when she walked in the door. The proposal was a night to remember, not just for the people who worked so hard to make it special, or the happiness both Matt and Colleen felt, but for the ever present thought of what could have been had two red lines showed up instead of one.
