Matthew and Ashlyn were both active members of Resonate Church in Bellingham. They saw each other around but never had a moment to connect. In the summer of 2023, there was a group from their church going down to San Diego for a 5-week summer project. Ashlyn and Matthew both felt called by the Lord to go. Over the course of those weeks, they got to know each other deeper in community. The church hosted a swing dancing night, they felt the spark as they danced and swung the night away. Over the course of rest of the trip they aimed to be present in what they were learning, but they would still share moments together. Matthew decided on that trip that once they were both back in Bellingham he would ask her on a date. A month and a half later the moment arrived and Matthew knocked on her door and asked her out. Before Ashlyn said yes she asked to know his thoughts and intention, and there Matthew showed his level of care and desire to know her. It laid the foundation for a relationship full of intentionality. They had their first date at a trampoline park filled with laughs and good conversation. They knew they wanted to see each other again. On their third date on September 15, 2023, they took a jump in the local bay to enjoy the last days of summer and Matthew asked Ashlyn to be his girlfriend. Their dates and time following were full of adventures and joy. Some of the best highlights were horse back riding, double dates, morning bible studies, polar plunges, sunrise hikes and more dancing. There was something different and set apart in the way they loved each other, and it was all from the work and love of Jesus Christ. They knew it and friends and family saw it. By January they started to pray and process with loved ones around them about marriage. On March 2, 2024, after a day of snow and surprises and they were engaged. They got to end the day of the proposal celebrating with friends and family. Now they have the joy of inviting you to celebrate their time in becoming one, as Mr and Mrs Johnson.
