Our love story began with anime and a pizza that almost killed Gel. We bonded over similar tastes in television shows and music. On our second date, we had planned a pizza night. Through text, Matt asked Gel what toppings she wanted on her half of the pizza so that it'd be delivered around the time she arrived (pineapple and bacon). Gel didn't think to tell Matt that she is severely allergic to mushrooms because her thought was "Who even likes mushrooms". Matt didn't think to ask Gel if she liked mushrooms because his thought was "Who doesn't like mushrooms". When the pizza arrived, both parties were hungry and excited to continue the conversation that, for a second date, was effortless and felt as though they had always known each other. Low and behold, when Matt opened the pizza box, Gel realized maybe she should have brought her epipen -- half the pizza had mushrooms on it. At first, Matt thought, it'd be fine because the mushrooms weren't on Gel's side of the pizza, but sadly that's not how cross-contamination works. After scrambling to find a substitute meal, our second date went off without a hitch or an E.R visit. Our second date actually went so well that three years later, here we are still talking as though we've known each other our whole lives, laughing until we cry, and getting married.
