We met while I was interning at a gym my senior year of college. Matt worked at the gym in high school & still worked out there. He walked in one day & started talking with the woman that I was interning with. He was talking about his new gun that he just bought. I was immediately intrigued about his new gun and started asking questions. He said he was going shooting the next day with friends. He followed me into the Synrgy class I was setting up for & asked me for my #. He said if 1 of his friends backed out, I could come, he was only allowed 2 guests at a time. The next day I got a text saying his friends were both going, but next time. He continued to come into the gym while I was interning & we made small talk. He came in 1 day & was talking with Lisa about his firefighter exam weeks away. That date stuck with me & on that morning 3 weeks later I texted him wishing him good luck. He couldnt believe I remembered from weeks earlier. After the exam he texted me & said I went great. From then on we started texting. It was around his bday & he was going to dinner at Long Horns. I told him to get the chocolate stampede dessert. He sent me a picture & said it was delicious. He then said, since you seem to love desserts, have you tried the NY cheesecake w/ strawberries at Cheesecake Factory. I said no, & he said we should go out & get some; hows Wednesday sound. I agreed. He picked me up from my apartment after I got out of class. He opened the door for me & I was shocked. He said doesn’t everyone do that? I said NO! The date went perfect. At dinner we laughed endlessly. Conversation was going so good, we forgot to look at the menu to order dinner for the first 1/2hour we were there. We became best friends very quickly, after 4 dates he told me he was falling in love with me. After 4 weeks he handed me a promise ring and told me I was the one. Here we are 4 and a half years later, we just bought our first home & now we’re tying the knot!
The morning of, we woke up & made a nice breakfast together. We went & hiked Pack Monadnock Mtn. We got home from hiking, got ready for dinner & off went. On the way we stopped by the beach. I posed for a picture and then Matt said turn around, let’s get a backside picture. He said “ok I got it” When I turned around he was on one knee. He said “Alix, I love you, if it is not too late, will you marry me?” Through my tears I said YES and gave him a huge kiss. Matt hired a photographer to capture the special moments & filmed the whole thing on his GoPro. After pictures, we headed to dinner. When we got there matt asked to see the ring & took it off my finger. I was confused but agreed. Matt gave his name to the hostess. She took us through some doors to a private room. Standing there was both of our families & closest friends. I cried again. They all said surprise! I was confused & they were confused as to why I was crying. That is when Matt started his speech. He thanked everyone for coming to celebrate my special day, and at the end he looked at my mom and said, now you can really call me your son-in law, and he placed the ringer back on my finger. Everyone burst out into tears to congratulate us. You see, Matt had sent out a text about 2 weeks prior to our friends and family and said that he was having a surprise dinner party to celebrate my new job. He sent them a color coded diagram of where they could park so that I wouldn’t recognize their cars in the parking lot. He had us all fooled and surprised. They were actually there to celebrate our enggement with us. It was incredible. Then, to top the whole thing off, he had hired the Houston Bernard band to play live music for us. They had learned the song “eyes on you,” by Chase Rice. That song we call “our song” and he danced with me to it in front of our family and friends. He thought of absolutely everything for this proposal. All of the months of planning made this the best day of my life.
