There is still no consensus on the exact day they met. Matt says she took his breath away while eating free indian food at the local food co-op, and Michaela says she was smitten at first bean bag toss at one of those famous ORC lawn parties. Whatever the first meeting, Michaela knocked Matt off his feet at the end of that wonderful party with the request of a romantic correspondence. Or maybe she drunkenly asked for the cute boy's number. He followed up with the best first date of all time and together they stumbled through awkward first kisses and found happiness in the many years that followed.
In case you don't know (and how could you not know?), Matt and Michaela are avid stand up paddle boarders. So when Matt suggested a 13 mile paddle around one of their favorite islands Michaela couldn't say no. They packed their sandwiches and shipped off for the day, with the plan to stop for lunch at their favorite beach on the far side of the island. They battled wind and wave for 7 miles until they came to their secluded beach and found their picnic table taken over by toddlers and their doting family. Michaela got off her board and started to eat, while Matt played it cool and gently suggested they find another beach a few hundred yards away. While she was very hungry, Michaela relented and they fought, again, against wind and waves until Matt found the perfect spot. Matt got down on one knee as Michaela was enjoying the view of the Chesapeake, and she said yes before he could ask the question.
