We first encountered each other in a class at Allegheny College. We say encountered because the first interaction we had was one of conflict- that is during a German Mock Election which the final candidates were us. Katarina's knowledge and confidence is what won her the popular vote and Matthew's steadfast arrogance is what allowed him to form the final government- the ultimate goal. However, it was exactly these traits that lead us to meet again- and argue- that following weekend at a college party. In the coming weeks we began to see more and more of each other, and little did Matthew know was I did not care for him much. For the same qualities he showed during the debate were the same qualities I at the the time did not like. Yet, I have to say, it was those qualities that pushed me into continuing to see him and eventually falling in love with him. We were a good fit, Katarina balanced my antagonistic qualities out with a kind soul and deep care for other people, and I hope I did the same for her. We quickly began to learn a lot about each other and there were surely things we did not anticipate. I had always imagined my wife to be intelligent, agnostic and very unstructured in her way of life. I was only right about one of those things. I now know Katarina is an intelligent Christian with a very structured life and I wouldn't change a thing. On the other hand, although I never had a model husband in my mind, I never anticipated an arrogant agnostic man to be who I fell in love with. But here we are. I have found Matthew to be exactly what I wanted in life. He and I complete each other, we balance each other's strengths and weaknesses and we make an excellent team. All of you have been invited because you have played an amazing role in our lives as friends and family. As we move forward we cannot wait to see how all of our old and new relationships combine into one big family. Celebrate with us as we begin our journey and enjoy this weekend!
