2 mile paved trail along the waterfront in Portland
You've gotta try these donuts!
Very tasty Thai, we stopped here when our flight arrived late and we were hangry.
Check out this spot for late night, carry out pizza in Portland, it’s really, really, really good. Ate the pizza too fast to take a picture!
Wonderful oyster bar
Mighty fine beer
For a great day trip, catch a ferry across the bay to Peaks Island. Bring some cash to drop in a box at Brad's, and take a bike around the island. The Inn on Peaks Island has a beautiful patio where you can grab a drink before taking the ferry back across the bay.
This is the one, the original, LL Bean Flagship Store! And located conveniently around the corner, you can find an LL Bean outlet store and the chance to score some great deals.
A truly spectacular detour perched on a rocky point between Portland and Camden. Grab a crab roll to go from Sprauge’s or Red’s in Wisscasset, or load up on pastries before leaving Portland, and take a picnic to the point. Admission is a few dollars (in cash!!) but the views, crashing waves, and little museum are well worth it.
Some of our favorite coffee from our first trip to Maine came from this place. We brought two bags home with us and it wasn't enough.
No trip to Maine is complete without a trip to a lighthouse, and this one is at the end of an amazing breakwater right in Rockland. Wear good shoes as you’ll be walking on large rocks, and on your way out to the lighthouse, keep your eyes peeled for the “kissing rock”, the only stone that spans the width of the breakwater!
Another fantastic hike, located in Camden Hills State Park. Legend has it, a young pilgrim girl lost her hat in the wind and chased it right off the edge of the cliffs. Secure your own hat and enjoy the view! It’s a steep climb on a well-marked, 2 mile loop. The trailhead is about a 5 minute drive from the in.
If you're a morning person, wake up well before dawn and catch the sunrise from the top of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park. By late October, Cadillac Mountain is the very first point on the United States to see the sunrise. Plan ahead to buy your entrance ticket to the road to Cadillac Mountain (this is different than your National Parks pass!!!) well in advance! 1.5 hours from Camden.
Iconic Bar Harbor diner, known for blueberry pancakes. Stop here to refuel after catching sunrise at Acadia National Park.
Your lunch spot in Bar Harbor! Excellent chowder.
