Matt likes to say “we met anonymously in a hotel room” and leave it at that. Sarah has to explain that we did, in fact, meet in the hotel room her girlfriends were staying in for the weekend, where a mutual friend invited Matt to crash their party. Despite making no effort whatsoever to impress one another, we began talking and things really heated up from there — and by heated up, we mean we began talking on FitBit messenger (wait, what?), then Facebook Messenger (yuck), and then finally over text before our first date a few days later. Five years later, the FitBit messaging is still embarrassing, but we are so thankful that Matt was clueless enough to accept that pity invite, and that Sarah eventually stopped burping and got out of bed so we could get the chance to trade sarcastic remarks with one another all night. Before you ask — yes, we are willing to part with the movie rights to our love story for the right price.
Alone in our first apartment, Matt simply got down on one knee and asked "Will you marry me?" and Sarah replied "Are you serious?!"
