Matt met Julie when they were both Band Geeks™ at Hamden High. They kept notebooks full of their band directors’ most memorable quotes and captured on both paper and film the bizarre experiences of a marching band kid. They helped to produce notable parody cinematography such as “MacBond” and “some other one I can’t remember the name of that involved lego characters and Matt standing on top of Sleeping Giant in a cape and there was definitely one character named ‘Olaf the On Fire’”. Through the difficulties of music school, Julie had Matt’s back at all hours, even though it was from a few hundred miles away. They taught in the same music department for a time, and Julie has always managed to be an exceptionally astute sounding board, emotional grounding force, and source of good recipes.

Dan Brownell

Matt met Dan because Dan was ALSO a Band Geek™ at Hamden High. Even though he disappeared to Ithaca for several years, Dan eventually came back with not only a music degree, but his wonderful wife Amy, who then promptly left him to go study Music Therapy before finally coming back home to CT again. Matt has had the pleasure of playing several of Dan’s compositions. Dan has become something of a percussionist for the Plainville Wind Ensemble, where he and Matt were able to enjoy playing in a large ensemble together for the first time in about a decade. Dan is an excellent provider of emotional support and mixed metaphors. Also, he got certified as an officiant for this, so that’s pretty sweet.

Shane Jones

Shane and Matt (Pasta) lived in a sweet house on Ardmore Rd in West Hartford during college. They put on a completely unnecessary junior-year recital, and forced each other to sight-read flute duets for marimba warmups. Freshmen year, Shane rolled Matt across the stage in the shell of an old bass drum, all for the sake of art. They graduated in 2011 with, collectively, degrees in Music Management, Music Education, and Percussion Performance. Shane went on the insane trajectory of becoming a college percussion professor, now in Utah!

Beck's multi-talented friend from college who is not only amazing at math (now a math professor) but also a talented writer!
Jeff DesRosier

Jeff is responsible for starting the band that would become one of Connecticut's premier Irish music groups. I would write the story here, but Greg tells it better so you'll have to ask him. Jeff is a full time music teacher, part time motorcycle mechanic, and a complete encyclopedia full of trad Irish music knowledge.

Beck's roommate and close friend from college who has a knack for languages and kindly tolerated Beck's messy side of the dorm room ;)
David Uhl

David and Matt met playing in Hartt's orchestra and wind ensemble together, ofter performing somewhat similar roles on bass and timpani, respectively. They continue to do so today in The Jolly Beggars (less timpani, more bodhrán). Dave is one of the most versatile musicians Matt knows. He freelances all over the area and teaches music classes in Trumbull for high schoolers.

Greg is another founding member of The Jolly Beggars. He is also a frequently recognized teaching for Plainville Public Schools. Greg is responsible for most of the harmonies sung by the Beggars. Talk to him about baseball!
Christopher Vece

Matt first met Chris staring at the back of his head during a Neighborhood Music School Wind Ensemble rehearsal. Chris was headbanging to "Cartoon" and probably had blue hair. Chris is literally one of the most thoughtful people in the world, and also truly hilarious. Chris plays whistle and flute in The Beggars, and teaches music to elementary schoolers.
