The first time we met it was at a bonfire that our mutual friends from the BSU at Northeast were hosting. Our friend, Riley, introduced us, and I (Rachel) remember thinking, "Matthew. That'll be an easy name to remember since that's my brother's name." We watched the Greatest Showman that night, and we also went to the train tracks to smash coins on the tracks. As far as I recall, the only interaction between us that night was us being introduced and riding in the same car together, and we never interacted again until months later.
Later on, we were reintroduced through a mutual friend who he happened to be dating at the time. We were able to become friends thanks to this instance. I remember taking a few hard blows from failed dating and talking to Matt about it all. In return, he gave me great advice and even got me into the hobby of running to help deal with some stress. The semester ended, and graduation rolled around which resulted in us drifting apart. Until...
In November of 2019, I posted on my Snapchat story about wanting a tv show marathon partner or something silly like that with questions like, "What snacks would you bring?" "What tv shows we should marathon?" etc. Then this boy that I had not talked to since graduation, slid up with all the answers, and we reconnected and began to learn more about one another. I remembered we played 20 questions, and his last question was asking if I would go out on a date with him. December 3rd rolled around which began our relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend.
For me, this day seemed like it was never going to happen, but I am glad that it happened when it did. Matt came home from work that day and asked if I would like to go out to eat that night in Corinth. As we were leaving his house, he turned the opposite way to go to Corinth, so naturally, I was curious and asked him where we were going. He said that he wanted to go look at the new cross up close that they had just built on Highway 45 right outside of Booneville. We went and just walked around for about 5 minutes. At that point, I was ready to leave, because I was starving. So, I turn to walk to the car, and he tells me to hang on. He proceeds to get down on one knee and say, "I'm not very good at these types of things." To which I replied, "You better not be." Then he popped the question, and now here we are making a wedding website.
