We met at the gym if that surprises anyone. There was a very real something at first sight for both of us (and seeing each other being strong and fit and sweaty didn’t hurt). Once he finally worked up the courage to ask for my number, we hit it off immediately and our conversations just flowed throughout the next couple weeks. We finally made plans to meet outside the gym and we just clicked. Everything about it was easy and so natural for both of us. On the weekends, I started working out with him, because he was already a seasoned lifter (and it made me nervous), but he was patient, kind, and he had a great sense of humor about it all. I think it’s part of why our relationship is so strong!
On our annual Boemecke family trip, we took a hike with the rest of the family to get pictures taken with the most beautiful background. It was nothing out the ordinary for us, but I was so unsure why we were hiking so far just for pictures. Matt reassured me it will be worth it and to keep going. Our photographer snaps a few family pictures and we filter through the couples for pictures. When our time approaches, we head up to the spot and smile for a few normal pictures. Then, Matt suggests a prom pose. Not unusual but I was not expecting it. I turn to face forward waiting for him to wrap his arms around me. After seconds of waiting, he calls my name and I turn around to see him on one knee with the most beautiful diamond ring. My response felt like it took a century because of the initial shock. After what felt like minutes, I said “YES” and we were engaged.
