Matt and Laurel met in January of 2016 at the Passion Conference in Houston. They went with a group of people who had drum corps and the love of Jesus in common. Other than maybe an introduction to each other, they hardly spoke all weekend. *Flash forward 2 years* Matt had just aged out with Carolina Crown Drum & Bugle Corps in 2017 when he was hired on to teach for them the next summer (2018). Laurel was also hired on to be on tour with the group all summer as their videographer. The first day they were both there in May for spring training, their eyes met while going through the food truck line and it was love at *second* sight. That week Laurel saw Matt playing frisbee with his friends, so she messaged him that night asking if she could join them sometime. He said that they were going to play again the next night and she could join them. The night came, and when Laurel went to find the friend group it was just Matt that was there. They played frisbee and talked until the stadium lights turned off. After a week of playing frisbee and then walking around for hours, Matt confessed his feelings to Laurel (she wasn't surprised) and she confessed her feelings for him (he was relieved). Little did he know she had already told her mom she had met the man she was going to marry. And the rest is history! After 2 summers of drum corps together, and 1 of the longest school years EVER dating long distance (the drive from OSU to ACU was 5.5 hours), Matt proposed on September 28, 2019. It was thoughtful and beautiful, and they celebrated with friends and family afterwards. They love looking back at their memories together, but are so excited to make new memories as husband and wife! P.S. The frisbee from their first date is hanging on Laurel's bedroom wall, and it is only used on very special occasions. :)
