FAQs

Question

What a full weekend! There’s lots of things to attend, do I have to come to them all?

Answer

Come to what you can make it to! We’re maxing out the weekend, but by all means, pace yourself. Thursday is a holiday, and Saturday is the solstice, so we are embracing every moment and having a full-send couple of days.

Question

What’s happening at the Welcome Gathering on Thursday?

Answer

There’s an unannounced BG project launching in June that you’ll get to see! The location is on the river, with an incredible view of the City. Drinks and light snacks will be available. We hope to connect with you as you arrive in town, and for people to run into each other and have a meeting spot before dinner. We encourage folks to make plans and reservations for dinner that night.

Question

What is a block party (Friday night)? Do I bring my own legos?

Answer

We’re all gonna party in Braddock. The art gallery, community bread oven, Braddock Public House, and the flower farm will all be open and available to enjoy. Expect interactive activities.

Question

Are kids* actually* invited to everything?

Answer

Yes! To any and all events. Getting a sitter for the night (or multiple) is also awesome. We want you to make that call based on what works best for your family. Plus, we love seeing all of your little humans.

Question

Can I bring a plus one?

Answer

Text us.

Question

What neighborhood should I stay in?

Answer

Top Picks: Downtown, Squirrel Hill, Shadyside, Oakland, Southside. Also good: Friendship, Point Breeze, Edgewood, East Liberty, Bloomfield/Garfield/Friendship. Honorable Mentions: Mt Washington and Lawrenceville.

Question

Why Pittsburgh?

Answer

We both love it here! And it so happens that Alaina is full-Pittsburghese.

Question

What’s the weather going to be like?

Answer

Hoping for sunny days, Saturday is the longest day of the year. There is a rain plan to be indoors for the ceremony/reception. Otherwise, plan to be outside for the majority of the weekend.

Question

Best way to get around / get to the wedding?

Answer

We recommend renting a car for the weekend. Pittsburgh is, even if we don’t like to admit it, mainly a driving city. Uber/Lyft/Taxi to the venue is a great option. There will also be parking on site. A shuttle will be available from the venue to the afterparty at Dante Club, which is right up the street from Carrie Furnace (literally, 2 minutes).

Question

Who is in the wedding party?

Answer

If you’re asking, it’s not you. Just kidding! There isn’t one.

Question

Do you have a registry?

Answer

We are planning a honeymoon in Japan, and gratefully receive gifts toward that experience at the link below. We also love, love, love used or repurposed items, cool old stuff, personal treasures, heirlooms, artwork, one-of-a-kind finds, and things that people make themselves. Please message us if you'd like to ship something to us directly before or after the wedding weekend. Most importantly, we truly see your PRESENCE in our lives and at this special occasion as a tremendous gift. Thank you for loving us in all the ordinary moments. https://www.zola.com/wedding/mattandlain/registry

Question

Baseball?

Answer

Yes, the Pirates are in town for the weekend of the wedding. It’s possible to come to the Block Party on Friday early, then attend the Pirates game downtown. It’s also a fireworks night, which is always fun. There is also a game day on Sunday, which would work well after the Picnic Brunch. Matt and Alaina are considering attending the Sunday game. We’d prefer that you not attend the Saturday game ;)

For all the days along the way
