The moment he stepped out of the car that December evening in Lubbock, they knew this was special. They knew this was different, even if they didn't want to admit it. All it took was a hug to have a wave of emotions wash over them and for Matt to realize he wanted to be in Kimmy's life no matter what it took. That night they talked, they laughed, they held hands. They were terrified and excited by what this could mean. If only they'd have talked about defining the relationship! They continued to text and call, but ultimately, they took a step back. It wasn't until February that they realized this friendship could work. It wasn't until then that Kimmy realized Matt wanted to lift her up and encourage her rather than be a stressor in her life. Weekly Face Time calls and a few daily texts quickly turned into nightly Face Time calls (7pm MST/8pm CT became their favorite time of day!). In March, the friendship turned in to something much more special and the relationship was defined. The couple would face plenty of difficulty over that chapter of their lives, thanks in large part to the 14 hours of distance between them. However, in that stressful period of med school exams, specialty rotations, cross country moves and collegiate soccer seasons they always looked forward to those FaceTime calls and they made it a point to see each other every chance they got. They'd come a long way since "man bun"... he found his way into the hearts of the whole Burbank family and her into the Callaway's. One night in New Braunfels, TX everything changed again! All that was left to do now was ask the woman he loved to be a part of his life forever... mustering up all the courage he possessed, he got down on one knee and asked, to which Kimmy responded, while also dropping down to his eye level, "awww, how sweet... oh yes of course yes!" The square in San Marcos, became a forever part of their love story!
