In February 2018, Kim moved to Chicago for work on 3 weeks' notice. Not knowing anyone there, she found herself on dating apps, hoping to meet some people and get restaurant recommendations. Enter Matt, the native Chicagoan with a big group of friends in the city. While his initial message to Kim wasn't particularly clever, thought-provoking, or funny, the two made plans for a first date at Sparrow in Gold Coast. After a first date that lasted 3 and a half hours, the two went on three more dates that week that celebrated their personalities and interests. They went to a stand-up comedy show at Zanies so Matt could share his passion for comedy, faced off in ping pong matches at SPIN to satisfy Kim's love of *friendly* competition, and discovered that they both LOVE pizza after ordering in from Stella Barra. The following weekend, Kim left to go to her brother's wedding but called him to check in...after a few glasses of champagne. She missed him. And while it was a little strange that this was the first time they would speak on the phone, he didn't let it go to a second ring. He missed her, too. While Kim was only supposed to be in Chicago for 6 months, her stay seemed to keep extending until a full year had passed. They'd met each other's families and friends and even spent the holidays together. But, a few weeks after surviving the polar vortex together, Kim moved back to New York. A year of long distance was more than enough for the two of them. They'd spend the next 2 and a half years nearly inseparable (quite literally while quarantining in Matt's apartment during COVID), moving in together in Philadelphia while both were pursuing their MBAs. Kim has gotten Matt to keep moving further east, and they now live in New York. Kim has taught Matt to be a little more aggressive when crossing the street, and Matt has helped Kim embrace Midwestern friendliness.
