The reception will be held at The Black Ginger Restaurant, which is on the premises of The Slate Phuket Hotel. If you are not staying at The Slate, the reception staff will assist you in locating the restaurant once you arrive.
For full transparency, Matt & Kyra were married in a private intimate ceremony on April 25, 2025, and therefore will not be conducting an additional symbolic ceremony in Thailand, and. This event is a reception weekend full of activities to celebrate the love and marriage of Matt & Kyra with their closest family and friends! The first event on the day of the wedding reception will be the champagne toast and cocktails at one of the bars on site at The Slate Hotel. We want to start off by saying that we love each and every one of you and we of course would love to celebrate with everyone! However, we understand that is a huge ask to travel across the world and we want you all to remember that this is an Invitation and NOT and Obligation. We are not offended if you cannot or do not want to join us on this adventure.
The closest airport to The Slate Hotel (Reception Venue) is Phuket International Airport (HKT), approximately a 7-10 minute drive from the resort and taxis plus Grab (the Uber of Thailand) are readily available. If you are staying at The Slate, your transfer from the airport will be included, if you so choose. Please contact Kyra for details on reserving this.
The short answer is that most flights from the USA (and other international countries except some Asian cities) do not have a direct flight to Phuket and will have a connection in Bangkok. The 2 major airports that have direct flights to and from the USA are BKK (Bangkok) and CNX (Chiang Mai). Chiang Mai is in the North of Thailand and is a beautiful city and gateway to the mountainous region of the country. Bangkok is more centrally located and obviously the bustling capitol of Thailand. Both Bangkok & Chiang Mai (plus many other larger cities such as Pattaya, Koh Samui, and Hat Yai) have multiple daily puddle jumper flights to and from Phuket. IF YOU ARE BOOKING PUDDLE JUMPERS FROM BANGKOK, PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THERE ARE 2 AIRPORTS IN THE CITY - DOUBLE CHECK WHICH AIRPORT(S) YOUR FLIGHTS LAND AT VS. TAKE OFF FROM. (We might know from experience, hehe)
Everyone is allowed to bring a plus one, even if it is not your significant other! Traveling internationally can be very fun, but sometimes daunting and we want everyone to have the best experience possible! Please no more than 1 additional guest though (with the exception of children)
Yes, you may bring your children if you like. Please indicate if you are bringing children and how many total adults and children your party includes on the RSVP card.
Thailand currency is the Thai baht (TBH). The exchange rate fluctuates currently between 34:1 - 37:1 with the US Dollar. Though it is becoming more popular for Thai businesses to accept credit cards, it is VERY much encouraged to carry a decent amount of cash currency around with you as some shops, restaurants, and activity vendors still only accept cash. DO NOT exchange your money at the airport currency exchange counter - this will give you the worst exchange rate. Instead, there are ATMs located all over (also at the airport) and we recommend withdrawing cash from those. They will give you the option to withdraw in Thai Baht or in your currency - choose the Thai Baht option as it will give you the best exchange rate)
There are many ways to travel around the island of Phuket. Taxis are fairly readily available as well as Tuk Tuks (Kind of scammy but really gun). Alternatively, if you are comfortable driving a scooter or motorcycle, most hotels and other motorbike rental stands have scooters and motorcycles available for rent for pretty decent daily rates (this is a super fun way to see the country, but be aware in Thailand you drive on the opposite side of the road)! If you need transportation to/from Phuket from another town or city - there are many options for flights, buses, trains, ferries, and private transfers. We recommend using 12Go (https://12go.asia/en) to source and book your transfers.
YES! We have posted a public itinerary of what areas/towns we will be visiting from the 4th of December through the 13th of December. Everyone is welcome to join for any or all of those locations and activities and our schedule and accommodations for each are listed on the "Wedding Weekend Itinerary". We will be going to Krabi and Khao Sok National Park. Anything prior to the 4th or after the 13th of December is a private venture.
We spent 3 weeks in Thailand a couple years ago and loved pretty much everywhere we visited. That being said, some of our favorite spots were: Pai, Chiang Dao, & Koh Phangan. All very different but equally magical! Pai is a tiny little hippie town in the north of Thailand, most easily accessed from Chiang Mai city. You will wind your way through 762 turns on a single road from Chiang Mai up to Pai and land in a wonderful tranquil village and backpackers paradise. A mix of open air night markets, reggae bars, quality restaurants, cave exploration, and river tubing. Chiang Dao is a very small town also in the north of Thailand, most easily accessed from Chiang Mai city (we did a multi-day overnight dirtbike tour that landed us here unexpectedly). This town is at the base of Chiang Dao national park and gave us the most authentic experience of our entire trip. It is a little off the beaten path but still easily navigable! Highly recommend. Koh Phangan is not secret, it is home to the world famous Full Moon Parties on Haad Rin beach. However, away from Haad Rin during the full moon time period this island is unbelievably beautiful, laid back, with tons of great dining options and bars, uncrowded beaches, and lovely people! We stayed here for 4 nights and really wished we had more time to spend there. This island is on the opposite side of the country from Phuket in the Gulf of Thailand (as opposed to the Andaman Sea) and the rainy season is from late October to Mid December so the weather might not be fantastic but we went during this time and found it actually to be less crowded and a fun adventure to navigate the rain :)
Thailand is warm year-round and there are slight micro-climates depending on where you are in the country. Phuket in December should be in the dry season with averages around 80-82 degrees F and moderately humid.
Casual = Pretty much anything you feel like wearing. Shorts, t-shirts, sandals, sneakers, tank tops, sun dresses are all OK. Please no swim suits though! Formal - Black Tie Optional = Ladies: Formal gown (preferably tea or floor length). Dress can be any color, fabric, or style (think Gala or Adult Prom :D ) Shoes can be anything you like except sneakers (fancy flats, wedges, platforms, or stilettos) Gentlemen: Formal Suit & Tie or Bowtie OR Tuxedo. Suit can be any material, color, and cut (but no shorts please) and can be 2-Piece, 3-Piece or Tux. Shoes should be closed toe dress shoes, any color is acceptable. **Notes** 1. Thailand is hot and relatively humid - choose your clothing styles, cuts, and materials appropriately. (Would not recommend heavy wool for men or velvets and heavy satins for ladies, etc.) 2. You should wear the same outfit for the champagne and cocktail hour that you plan to wear for the dinner reception BUT you will be able to change into a different outfit for the after party if you so desire and want to attend that part.
