Get up early and get in line! Red's is supposed to have the best lobster roll in all of Maine. We're told that Sprague's, directly across the street, gets their stuff from the same lobstermen, but perhaps you can be the judge. Seriously, the line gets long, and it gets that way early. Go queue up around 11 if you want your best shot at the legendary delicacy.
Directly across the street from Red's. The owner, Frank, claims his lobster is the same lobster, so stop by and do the lobster-roll taste test yourself, or just enjoy the dock and skip the Red's line altogether.
Our favorite local spot. Great coffee, breakfast pastries and savory items you can grab to go. The extra space next door sells wine and good local ciders and beers. TREATS rules!
Boothbay Harbor is one of the boating capitals of New England, and the annual Windjammer Days festival will be taking place in town leading up to our wedding weekend. It's one of the biggest events of the summer, so check out their schedule to see if you'll be around for the loads of free events down by the waterfront and in town.
Maine’s state quarter features beautiful Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, which you can reach in less than an hour’s drive. Make sure you have a few bucks cash, as it’s a State Park and they’ll charge you for parking. We highly recommend grabbing a delicious sandwich on the way from The Cupboard Café, one of our favorites.
An awesome summertime Maine beach. May be crowded on the weekend, and as with Pemaquid Point, you may want to have some cash on hand to make sure you can secure a parking spot. If you go at low tide, you can walk out to the small rocky island and explore. And nearby Phippsburg has lots of great cute spots to grab a bite.
For something like $65 a person, you get on a boat, take a scenic tour of the bay, and then you're dropped off at an island where you feast on a lobster bake with chowder, clams, 2 lobsters, and more, followed by dessert and coffee. Hit up the website, because they highly recommend reservations.
We like The Thistle Inn, Mel's Wood Fired Pizza, McSeagulls (for cold beers), and Mine Oyster, where we'll be having our wedding after-party. It's a really cool harbor town, so you can uncover new gems just by walking around and exploring.
Nearby Damariscotta is a good place to stop through for sandwiches at Fernald's (they're seriously awesome), dinner at the Damariscotta River Grill, or a short downtown walk.
If you are spending a night in Portland and wanna spend a little bit of money on some of the best food you'll ever have, eat at Eventide. If you are waking up in Portland, or passing through, we HIGHLY recommend a biscuit and coffee at Tandem. There's a nice downtown and waterfront, lovely to walk around and window shop. The Holy Donut also is downtown Portland must!
