Mount Tamalpais
You can hike it! It's big. Great views! Hooray!
Sweetwater Music Hall
A lovely place to see some music and grab a drink. We saw Matt's Uncle Stan and Aunt Ines play there!
Muir Woods National Monument
Another lovely place to hike. There are trees (which should have been obvious given the name, Muir Woods).
Marin Headlands
This is a gorgeous area for hiking and exploration. You can also visit the Marine Mammal Center for some wild-life and science learning; Katya used to volunteer there in high school!
Sea Trek Kayak and Stand Up Paddle Board Center
We recommend kayaking in the Bay if you'd like to get in the water!
Point Reyes National Seashore
A bit of a drive, but well-worth it!. Another beautiful hiking area with sweeping cliff views, and freshly-shucked oysters available at Drake's Bay!
Civic Center
The Civic Center is a beautiful building and grounds designed by Frank Lloyd Wright (fun fact: the building served as the set of the movie GATTACA). On Sundays, there is a huge farmer's market that we recommend visiting!
San Francisco

Sonoma & Napa Valley
For those interested in winery tasting and tours, Sonoma and Napa Valley is an excellent day-trip from the Bay Area! Just north of Marin County, there are many cute towns, restaurants, and wineries, from small and family-owned to quite large properties.
