We planned to go on a date but had loose plans for the evening. Matt casually asked me at dinner about an hour before heading out if I want to go to the "Lake Spot" while on our date. (Side note: The "Lake Spot" is a little nook on Medicine Lake where we spent hours talking the summer before we started dating; we made it our spot thereafter and have gone back periodically since.) We head to the Lake Spot; everything seems totally normal, and due to the lack of prompt planning and the fact that he showed no signs of nervousness at all (how?!) I had no suspicions. Matt kept remarking on how he hoped we would be able to get through the snow to get down the trail (as in he said it 4 times in about a 400-yard span from the car to the trail), which I found odd, but not alerting. (I later found out he only said this to throw me off, and that in fact him, his dad, and his brother-in-law Dimitri had plowed out the trail the previous weekend.) We get there, watch the sunset, and after a few minutes, he remarks on how funny it is to think about how our relationship essentially began here. Everything made sense then, and I turned around to find him on one knee. A few minutes later, Dimitri pops out from behind a nearby tree, and his brother and sister, Katie and Jacob, walk down the trail to meet us. Totally got me and without a doubt didn't see it coming, but wouldn't have changed a thing.
