Elysia and Matt met through a mutual friend at a house party in early 2016. They instantly gravitated toward each other and remained friends, though didn’t keep in contact much over the next year.. In August of 2017, Elysia and her dog Shadow were living in Portland, Oregon and Matt was often traveling for work. The two hadn’t spoken in many months. Elysia happened to open Facebook after turning it off for nearly a year, and the first thing she saw was Matt tagged in a photo at a local Portland restaurant just a day earlier. Excitedly, she reached out to let him know she was living there and to see if he was still in town. He had just finished working on an event, and would be staying just one more night. They made plans to get dinner and check out a soul band, and both had the feeling it would be a special night. They had no idea this would be the beginning of a deeper romantic relationship. Matt left town the next day, but the two kept in touch almost daily until they saw each other again when Elysia was in Vermont for a wedding in September. Then came the New Years Eve Phish show at Madison Square Garden that year, where they decided to make their relationship official... Elysia and Matt navigated a long distance relationship for over a year while she was living in Portland and Matt was living in Western Massachusetts. Finally, in early 2018, Matt flew to Portland and the three of them (Shadow included) drove east across the country to bring their lives together in the Berkshires. These two have supported each other through many big changes: the death of both Matt’s beloved mom and Elysia’s maternal grandmother, another big move to Ithaca, NY, the onslaught of the pandemic and all of it’s uncertainty, the purchase of their first home in Trumansburg, NY, and the welcoming of sweet Jude as a new furry family member.
