Matt and Claire met through her twin, Dan, because both Matt and Dan took classes together at the Art Institute of Houston. Matt and Claire first talked to each other at a favorite bar with several other friends. Matt worked at an exhibit design firm and Claire wanted to strengthen her museum connections. She asked to exchange numbers so that they could remain in contact professionally...and he declined. She assured him that the number was not meant for romantic reasons, but Matt still declined. They lost touch for several years, but reconnected as members of the groom’s party for Dan's wedding in 2016, where she finally got his number. The two have not stopped talking since. Matt traveled to Seattle to visit Claire while she worked on her Master's degree in September 2017, when he asked Claire to be his girlfriend. They spent their first year together as a long-distance relationship with weekly Zoom dinner dates and occasional in-person visits. They bonded over true crime, bad movies, and nerdy NPR shows. After a year apart, they moved in together in Chicago with their dog Ichabod and cat Willow. They spent two years in Chicago, exploring the mid-West and camping. Then. Covid-19 caused Matt and Claire to move (back) to Houston in the summer of 2020. Currently, they enjoy having a limited winter and being close to family again. Matt proposed on Christmas Day in their apartment after they had exchanged presents. They look forward to the coming decades together, no matter where they live.
