Matt was born and raised in Reno, NV - just 11 miles from where the couple lives today. Ally grew up in San Ramon, CA and moved to Reno in the fall of 2016 to attend the University of Nevada Reno (UNR). Though the couple attended college at the exact same time (for four years... plus a semester or two) that's not where their story begins. In fact, Matt and Ally lived mere feet from each other throughout college - first in the same dorm freshman year and just across the street junior and senior year. After graduation, they even moved to the same neighborhood to live their post-grad lives with friends, yet their paths never crossed. It wasn’t until Matt struck up a casual conversation on a dating app that they realized how close they truly were. From the beginning, it was clear there was something special between them. They quickly discovered a long list of uncanny connections: their grandparents had been friends for years, Matt's last name matched Ally's grandma's maiden name, and they even had multiple mutual friends from college. Some might call it coincidence, but others would say it's meant to be. Their relationship blossomed quickly. On just their third date Matt introduced Ally to his sisters (a bold move that still raises eyebrows to this day). From there, the couple tackled countless adventures together, each with a story of their own - they renovated a kitchen, traveled the globe, and collected four cats along the way. One of their most memorable adventures was to Fiji, where they explored white-sand beaches, swam in crystal clear waters, and stayed in a village with no running water or electricity. Then, in September 2024, they set off to Italy. Their first stop was Verona, the city of love. With the romantic streets of Verona as a backdrop, Matt dropped to one knee and of course Ally said "yes”. This is just beginning of the next chapter of their story. Matt has always had a love for tinkering, taking apart and reassembling anything from vacuums to cameras to fans. It was only fitting that he earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from UNR. He went on to work for Tesla and now holds the title of Senior Mechanical Engineer at Redwood Materials (though Ally still isn’t quite sure what he does all day). Ally has always had a passion for working with young children. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies and began her career as a preschool teacher. Though she quickly realized she wasn’t cut out to be sick every other week. Ally transitioned in to early intervention and went on to earn her master’s degree in early childhood special education (officially making her the smarter half). She continues to work as a Developmental Specialist with the State of Nevada serving infants and toddlers with developmental delays and disabilities. Now, as they look ahead to a lifetime full of adventure, laughter, and love, Matt and Ally are can’t wait to celebrate this occasion surround by the family and friends they cherish.
