Like many modern love stories, Marisa and Matt’s began with a swipe on Hinge. Marisa complimented Matt’s smile, and Matt replied with a joke that instantly made her giggle. Their first date was lunch at Tycoon Flats, where they barely touched their food because they couldn’t stop talking. Having such a great time, they decided the date shouldn’t end there and headed to Dave & Buster’s to show off their competitive sides (we’ll keep the winner a secret). From that day on, they were inseparable, quickly filling their calendars with more dates and making memories together. They officially became a couple on December 21, 2021, when Marisa asked, “So… what are we?” Matt replied, “Dang it—you were supposed to wait a few more days! I was going to ask on your birthday weekend!” (LOL). Since then, their love story has been filled with adventure—snorkeling with a shark in Key West, seeing snow at Niagara Falls, and hiking through Montana. Some of their favorite moments, though, have been the simplest ones: spending time with family and friends, whether traveling to Vegas, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic, or staying closer to home with game nights in San Antonio or a night out in Southtown. For Matt and Marisa, anywhere is home as long as they’re surrounded by the people they love. Eager to continue building a life together, Matt and Marisa began house hunting in early 2024. While in the middle of closing on their home, they took a much-needed trip to Costa Rica. Just minutes after checking into their resort, Matt walked Marisa down to the shore. As she took in the beauty of the ocean, she turned around to find Matt down on one knee, asking her to spend the rest of her life with him. Shocked, completely surprised, and after a moment (or two… or three), Marisa said yes! From the very beginning, she knew Matt was the one. Now, Matt and Marisa are thrilled to take this next big step together. While they may be competitive when it comes to basketball, board games, baby shower games, and anything that can be “won,” they both know the greatest prize of all is a life together.
