FAQs

Here's some of the main questions we've gotten asked.
Question

What is the weather like?

Answer

Don't use the weather in downtown Salt Lake City as your guide for the Ceremony/Reception! The weather is different in Big Cottonwood Canyon and can be unpredictable as far as the temperature. Expect for a warm afternoon in the mid-70s and a cool evening in the low-50s! It's possible the temps could dip into the low 40s, so check the weather/check in with us as the day gets closer! Utah is one of the driest states in the country so rain is unlikely and chapped lips are a definite. Downtown Salt Lake City (and the rest of the valley) will be warmer! Expect temperatures in the valley to be in the high-70s to low-90s with extremely low humidity! Drink PLENTY of water and give yourself time to adjust to the altitude before going on any long hikes or adventures. The altitude also affects your alcohol tolerance so be careful when you imbibe!

Question

What is the dress code for the Ceremony?

Answer

Dress is Mountain Semi-Formal. This means we recommend dressing in layers and considering the terrain. Summer afternoons in the Wasatch are warm (mid-60s to low-70s) but cool off quickly in to the low-50s and high-40s. Expect for bright sun and alpine desert conditions. The ceremony and reception will be in a large grove of trees along an ice-cold stream so don't fret about sweat!

Question

This isn't a question, but is important to note:

Answer

MOOSE: Big Cottonwood Canyon and the Scraggly Squirrel Cabin are frequently visited by members of the local moose population. Moose are generally non-confontational but can be extremely aggressive if provoked/threatened. As is Leave NO Trace best practice, do not approach wildlife of any kind. We take the respect of wildlife and the safety of all of our guests seriously.

Question

What time should I arrive at the ceremony?

Answer

Feel free to arrive a few minutes early and enjoy viewing the property. The ceremony will begin at 5:00 PM MST. We recommend being at the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon no later than 4:30 PM. The drive from the base of the canyon should take no longer than 15 minutes but the road can get congested with hikers & sightseers.

Question

Do you have any hotel recommendations?

Answer

Yes! See our Accommodations recommendations under the Travel section.

Question

When should I RSVP by?

Answer

Please RSVP by the end of April so that we can be prepared for how many guests to prepare for! Plus, flights & hotels are cheapest 6 to 10 weeks in advance!

Question

Is there parking for the ceremony or reception?

Answer

There will be parking but we recommend carpooling or ride-sharing, if possible! Traffic in the canyon can be a hassle and our event is being held in a small neighborhood so we're trying to be as considerate as we can.
