Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Kelsy Josephine Lohr and Matthew James Smania
We have compiled a list of some of our favorite places and things to do in Traverse City and some of the surrounding area. We know that many our guests will be coming from far away for our wedding, so we hope that you can make a lovely summer trip out of your travels!
The Botanic Garden at Historic Barns Park

The Botanic Garden at Historic Barns Park

1490 Red Drive, Traverse City, MI 49684

An outdoor botanic garden, that repurposes the farm that fed the Medical Facility, now known as The Village TC. A donation is appreciated, but is free to visit. One of our favorite wedding venue candidates.

Cherry Republic

154 E Front St, Traverse City, MI 49684

All the Cherry products you've been looking for and a dozen you weren't.

The Filling Station Microbrewery

642 Railroad Place, Traverse City, MI 49686

A delicious pizza and beer spot located in the old train station. Try the dessert pizzas. You won't be disappointed.

Peninsula Cellars

Peninsula Cellars

11480 Center Road, Traverse City, MI 49686

One of many wineries. Some, like this, are on the Old Mission Peninsula. Others are on Leelanau Peninsula to the north west of TC. This is one of Matt's Favorites, located in an old schoolhouse with school themed wine names. You'll be begging for Detention here.

Brew Bus

10591 East Carter Road, Traverse City, MI 49684

There are numerous breweries and wineries in the Traverse City region, and Brew Bus can take you there if you don't want to drive yourselves.

The Little Fleet

448 East Front Street, Traverse City, MI 49686

A cute food truck court in downtown TC

Moomers Homemade Ice Cream

7263 North Long Lake Road, Traverse City, MI 49685

"Best Ice Cream in the US" according to GMA. Eat on the deck and 'moo' at the cows!

Bulldog Berries

Bulldog Berries

7187 East Harrys Road, Traverse City, MI 49684

A little U-Pick blueberry farm.

The Burrow TC

The Burrow TC

12930 South West Bay Shore Drive, Traverse City, MI 49684

Great blood orange mimosas! Matt proposed at the Grelickville Harbor Park after brunch.

Hop Lot Brewing Co. & Beer Garden

658 South West Bay Shore Drive, Suttons Bay, MI 49682

Hip outdoor eatery with cornhole, firepits, bbq and beer. What else could you need?

9 Bean Rows

9000 East Duck Lake Road, Suttons Bay, MI 49682

Tasty Bakery in Sutton's Bay. Great pizza, coffee, veggies at a coop farm

Historic Fishtown

203 West River Street, Leland, MI 49654

Historic Fishing Shanties and docks with shops and restaurants.

Sleeping Bear Dunes Overlook

Sleeping Bear Dunes Overlook

Pierce Stocking Scenic Dr, Empire, MI 49630

Beautiful drive through the woods with lookouts on the way until you get to Lake Michigan. This is the infamous "it will cost you $3000 to rescue you” spot. An awesome experience but a physical challenge if you choose to go down and 'climb' back up. Took Matt about 40 minutes to climb it back in 2023, Kelsy opted to watch him suffer and stay at the top.

Dune Climb

Dune Climb

6748 S Dune Hwy, Glen Arbor, MI 49636

A smaller, easier dune experience than the overlook, just after parking there is a large dune you can climb, this one will only take a few minutes. Once you get to the top, you can continue to a 3.5 mile round trip hike out to Lake Michigan. When the sun is out, the sand does get hot, so doing these activities early may be wise.
