If you'd prefer some added independence while you're here, RENTAL CARS can be arranged for pickup from all major brands upon your arrival to DTW. After picking up your things from baggage claim, you'll need to follow the signs to 'Ground Transportation' and take a courtesy shuttle to the rental car center for vehicle pick-up. But if you'd rather forgo the rental, TAXI & UBER/LYFT are readily available at the airport to take you wherever you've arranged lodging. The airport is about 25mins from the venue and 28 mins from downtown (approx. $40-$50). If you're not renting a vehicle and want to explore, Detroit offers 2 FREE SHUTTLE options: 'The People Mover" (all areas downtown Detroit) & "The Q Line" (Downtown to Midtown Detroit and beyond).
